Frequently Asked Questions

What is VASERlipo?

VASERlipo® is a precision body contouring procedure that selectively removes unwanted body fat. An alternative to the harsh techniques of traditional liposuction, VASERlipo uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology designed to gently reshape the body.

Is the VASERlipo procedure safe?

VASERlipo has been safely used in clinical study and on patients around the world. Side effects from the liposuction procedure may include, but are not limited to, temporary swelling, bruising, soreness, numbness (in and around the treated areas), bleeding, scarring, skin contour irregularities and indurations. Potential risks from the ultrasound energy may include burns. As with all surgical lipoplasty procedures, there is risk involved. Potential risks and complications may include, but are not limited to, infection, embolism, visceral perforation, seroma, nerve compression, skin necrosis, and fluid imbalance. The procedure requires anesthesia, which involves its own risks and the possibility of complications, toxicity, injury and even death.

How does it differ from traditional liposuction?

The VASERlipo procedure is unique in its ability to dislodge fat cells while preserving important connective tissues, resulting in smooth results and rapid healing.

Compare VASERlipo to other lipoplasty technologies.

Can VASERlipo be used with my existing aspiration/infiltration system?

Yes, the VASERlipo ultrasound amplifier to emulsify fat can be used in conjunction with other aspiration and infiltration systems; however, the patented VentX® system design allows for efficient aspiration with precise suction pressure control to preserve fat cell viability.

How does VASERlipo work?

Using thin multi-ringed probes, VASERlipo delivers ultrasound energy to emulsify the fatty component of the tissue matrix. Fatty tissue cells are dislodged from their supporting tissues by the Acoustic Streaming effect generated by the probes. Atraumatic cannulas are then used to remove the emulsified fluids while preserving the tissue matrix.

What body areas can be treated with VASERlipo?

VASERlipo technology enables the removal of small volumes of fat for precision contouring as well as larger volumes for rapid debulking.  With this versatility, physicians have experienced great success in treating the jowls and submentum, abdominals, hips, love handles, backs, buttocks, thighs, arms, knees, calves, ankles, and male and female breasts.

Can you treat multiple areas at once?

Yes, with VASERlipo you can treat multiple body areas at one time.

Can I perform VASERlipo in my office? Does it require sedation?

Yes, the VASERlipo procedure can be performed in your office, or an outpatient surgery center or hospital. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia while the patient is awake, or with IV sedation or general anesthesia.

How soon will my patients see results?

Noticeable results vary according to the amount of fat removed, the number of areas treated, and other factors. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure with the final results around three to four months.

What is the difference between VASERlipo and VASERsmooth?

VASERlipo is a complete system to perform a liposuction procedure with all the benefits of VASER technology. VASERsmooth® is an optional accessory component of the VASERlipo system. Capitalizing on the advancements of ultrasound energy, the VASERsmooth probes are specifically designed to emulsify fatty tissue and selectively cut through hardened fibrous septae that can result in unwanted skin dimpling and contour irregularities.
