In the April 15th 2004 edition of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the ASPS Committee on Patient Safety issued an advisory titled “Practice Advisory on Liposuction.” It was created to provide surgeons interested in performing Liposuction a strategy to follow for patient management and appropriate clinical decision making. This advisory recommends that physicians only perform Lipoplasty in their anatomical area of expertise and attend a CME-accredited Lipoplasty course with at least three hours of hands-on training. There are several independent, third-party training companies that provide courses designed for physicians with no previous Lipoplasty experience.
